Well, we did it -- both Deb and I completed the 2009 Seattle Women's Danskin Triathlon... although Jean, my swim angel had her doubts at times (she did a good job of masking them and staying positive but I could tell that she was wondering if I belonged out there)... (Yep, I wimped out and specifically asked for an angel and was Very Glad I did - I must have swallowed a lot of water because 36 hours later, I am only now starting to breath normally). Thank You Jean for making it possible to do this event this year... it is one of the ways I convince myself that I am still healthy and that the cancer is not back.
All in all, it was a very positive experience. The comradry and energy at these events is inspiring. I love everyone in the TriBabe and Team Survivor groups, especially our TriTurtle Coach Lisa Ballou and our TSNW mentors Monica and Coach Kim. And this was an inspiration for being better prepared for next time :).
Deb did very well and would have done better than last year if she hadn't lolly dollied around on her first transition. Since she didn't train much this year either, this just shows what a natural athlete she is.
I didn't do as bad as I thought I would - I was about 20 minutes slower than last year and took twice as long as the award winners, but I wasn't the slowest one by far, and did not take 3 hours as feared.
Times and photos will be posted when photos are available. We got really nice hunking color medals (it was Danskin's 20th anniversay). However, we sorely missed Sally Edwards and the original Danskin gang. It's just not the same. I'm signed up for Sally's Trek Tri in Sept. although I'm going to have to dig deep to do it.
